Resource consumption information

Get an overview and explanation of the fields to manage your resource consumption data. When adding or editing an item to the data set on the BuildingMinds Platform, you can only select a Subtype and Unit that matches the Type chosen. To successfully save data on the BuildingMinds Platform, each required field must be filled out.

Type

Description

Unit

Electricity

Grid (conventional electricity mix)

Electricity purchased as part of a conventional electricity mix contract. Factored in for the carbon emission calculation and displayed as part of the Net energy demand.

kWh, MWh

Electricity

Grid (100% renewable)

Electricity purchased as part of a 100% renewable energy sources contract. Factored in for the carbon emission calculation and displayed as part of the Net energy demand.

kWh, MWh

Electricity

Self-generated and exported

Electricity is generated on-site and fed back into the grid, like solar power. This value reduces the Net energy demand.

kWh, MWh

Electricity

Self-generated and consumed

Electricity is generated and consumed on-site, like solar power. Not factored in for the carbon emission calculation and not part of the Net energy demand.

kWh, MWh

Electricity

Unspecified

Electricity purchased as part of an electricity contract missing further specification (conventional or renewable). Factored in for the carbon emission calculation similar to electricity from a conventional electricity mix contract and displayed as part of the Net energy demand.

kWh, MWh

Fuels

Natural gas

Non-renewable, conventional gas source. Factored in for the carbon emission calculation and displayed as part of the Net energy demand.

kWh, MWh

Fuels

Oil-based fuels

Non-renewable, conventional oil-based fuel source. Factored in for the carbon emission calculation and displayed as part of the Net energy demand.

kWh, MWh

Fuels

Renewable natural gas

Gas that is produced from renewable sources.

kWh, MWh

District energy

District heating

Heat energy purchased from distribution networks enabling space or water heating.

kWh, MWh

District energy

District cooling

Cooling energy purchased from distribution networks enabling space cooling.

kWh, MWh

Others

Solar thermal

Energy generated by solar thermal collectors usable for space and/or water heating.

kWh, MWh

Others

Biomass

Matter from recently living (but now dead) organisms which are used for bioenergy production, like wood, wood residue, energy crops, agricultural residue, organic waste,

Description

Unit

Water

Rainwater

Water collected on-site from groundwater resources. Only the discharge is factored in for carbon emissions.

m3

Water

Reclaimed water

Water reused on-site. Only the discharge is factored in for carbon emissions.

m3

Water

Freshwater

Supply and discharge are factored in for carbon emissions.

m3

Water

Groundwater

Water collected on-site from groundwater resources. Only the discharge is factored in for carbon emissions.

m3

Water

Unspecified

Supply and discharge are factored in for carbon emissions.

m3

Waste

Biodegradable

Waste that micro-organisms can disintegrate. Not factored in for carbon emissions.

kg

Waste

Non-recyclable

Residual waste that is not biodegradable, hazardous, or recyclable. Not factored in for carbon emissions.

kg

Waste

Recyclable or reusable

Waste that can be reused or from which one can create new materials or objects. Not factored in for carbon emissions.

kg

Waste

Hazardous

Waste that is a threat to health and the environment. Not factored in for carbon emissions.

kg

Waste

Unspecified

Waste that does not fit any of the other waste categories. Not factored in for carbon emissions.

kg

Fugitives

Emissions of fugitive gases from refrigeration or air conditioning devices are factored in for the carbon emission calculation in terms of CO2 equivalents (CO2e) according to the global warming potential (GWP) of each specific gas. Methane (CH4), e.g., has a GWP of 28 kgCO₂e per kg.
